“Salon 3 by 3″ on October 30 at the Merchant’s of Green Coffee Café was a wonderful success. Poets Gianna Patriarca, Donna Langevin and I read poems responding to the work of artists Tina Conlon, Patsy Berton, and Grethe Jensen – who then talked about the cross-pollination that happens when artists/writers of different media pay attention to each other’s work. The 60 + audience shared 7 poems and 8 crayon drawings at the hour-long open mic/open wall that concluded the afternoon. The coffee was amazing and the cookies delicious (even the gluten free ones). People asked, “Will we do it again?” We loved the writing and painting – an exciting and enjoyable challenge. Perhaps when our over-taxed organizational brains have had a rest!
On November 4 Actor John Rammell and I “brought literary history to life” in “Between the Lines”, a reading of selected portions from An Unlikely Affair, Dorothy Rath’s and Irving Layton’s 30 year correspondence. Cate Rath, Dorothy’s daughter and Max Layton, Irving Layton’s son were there much to the delight of a full house in the studio at The Arts and Letters Club. “Already a memorable event, the evening was made unforgettable by the audience’s enthusiastic response and by Dorothy’s daughter being there too.”
