A Reading at the Gore Bay Museum

The Manitoulin Writers' Circle had an invitation to cross-pollinate with artists Katharina Kaiser and Michel Guerin Saturday, August 11 at the Gore Bay Museum. Pictured here are presenters Fay Becks, Margo Little, Julia Snell, Ann Elizabeth Carson and Connie Suite. Missing from picture Nicole Weppler.

I had a great time reading poetry evoked by Michel Guerin’s and Katharina Kaiser’s beautiful paintings at the last of four summer readings on Manitoulin Island organized by Margo Little, director of The Manitoulin Writer’s Circle, and Nicole Weppler, Director of the Gore Bay Museum. The last 2 months have been total immersion in writing for what I hope will be my next book and so this was also good time to catch up with other Manitoulin poets.

Since Gore Bay is not too far from Meldrum Bay at the far west of the island my friend Marilyn Luciano and I had a delicious dinner and spent the night at the Inn there. Then a nostalgic visit to the lighthouse, a good lunch, chatting to the cook-manager whom I recognized from years back (1993!) and on to visit Ted Smith at Gypsy Farm. We dropped in to see Ursula Hettman at her new studio on Dominion Bay and succumbed to temptation–earrings for me and one of Ursula’s raw silk, hand dyed shirts for Marilyn.

Now back to the computer, much refreshed.
