“Please convey to Ann Carson that I was very impressed, inspired, and moved by her presentation. In the wee hours of the night, I was still contemplating her images. I was particularly haunted by the notion of children in Holland having been slaughtered by the occupiers if their parents were found to be engaged in resistance activities. I didn’t understand the frequent references to poisonous tulip bulbs, or how these were used to convey messages.
And the mother, who permitted her children to be children and explore the pond of the old abandoned golf course, comes across with such vivid and tender presence.”
